I feel the material is as important in a period home as the size tile. Go with the large hex for the floor in the color you love. It’s a marble so that would have been used. What wouldn’t have been used is a 4x12 subway tile. I would use a 3x6 subway and the smaller (expensive but matching the floor) hex for the shower floor. I am working on a complete renovation where I used the subway tile vertically in place of bullnose and it turned out great so far. Nice choice in tile and paint. I’m not a fan of the current grey everything trend either. Below pic is crema marfil and not that period but you get the idea.
