My husband's was creeping up at one point and with his dad having had heart issues, our dr. was proactive. The one thing that made the most difference for him, IMHO, was decreasing the amount of cheese we were eating. Not that we were eating tons, but I guess we like cheesy things and it was something that was pretty easy to cut back on. He still eats red meat, drinks a small glass of milk most days, and is very active. My MIL's triglycerides were high and with stroke disease running in her family, she took action. After losing weight and taking up walking, she is within normal range.
I would do whatever I could to avoid a statin drug. There are several bad side effects.
