New Classics: Caviar Lighting
Posh without being pretentious, these artistic (and considerate) glass globe pendants mix a strong structure with a rounded form
Glass globe lights take on a whole new dimension in designer Laura Kirar's vision, the Caviar lighting series for Arteriors Home. While I love a simple glass globe light, the bare bulbs inside often give me a headache. Not so with these; inside the globes, perforated metal shades encase the bulbs and protect our delicate peepers from the glare. These shades also add a strong structural element to the fixtures. The series includes a handful of different clusters and compositions, from a small single globe to a bouquet-shaped chandelier composed of 18 bulbs. Here's how these fixtures are dangling overhead around Houzz.
The designer, Laura Kirar, studied sculpture and interior architecture at The Art Institute of Chicago, which explains why the pieces from the collection are so artistic and thoughtful.
Caviar 9 Light Adjustable Cluster by Arteriors
Here is a closer look at the globes in clear glass and the shades in polished nickel. Note: The bulbs are not included in the price.
This nine-globe chandelier is the most sculptural of the options. While it's large, the clear glass keeps it from overwhelming a room; rather, it seems to float overhead.
This version has smoke glass, and the shades have a brown nickel finish. Centered on this ceiling, it plays off the rectangles and antiqued glass of the mirrored piece on the wall.
In front of a window in daylight, the globes tend to disappear, revealing the interesting structural spray of trumpet-shaped shades.
The fixture can take on a retro-cool appeal that's part art deco and part '60s modern, just like this room.
This configuration is the Adjustable Bouquet version, which splays 18 bulbs in a more uniform way.
Caviar Pendant by Arteriors
This is the single pendant, which comes in several options. You can choose a polished nickel, brown nickel or rose gold finish on the metal, and clear or smoke glass. It comes in three sizes. The small globe is 6 1/2 inches in diameter, the medium globe is 10 inches and the large globe is 14 inches. The lengths are adjustable.
A trio of small pendants is a better fit for a larger island. The dark metal of the shades gives them a strong presence.
The classic globe shape allows the Caviar to fit in with a range of room styles, from traditional to contemporary.
Pendants centered high up in the ceiling coffers create a unique lighting scheme for this family room.
