dealing with tv
slate TV wall replaced an existing fireplace surrounded by a painted tongue and groove wall in a family room. It houses the tv behind bi-fold doors, a lit display niche, a copper lined niche for the firewood and a space in the raised hearth for the center speaker. It became the focal point of the room.

We left an inch on all sides using a 60" Plasma and had no issues with heat. It was recessed in to leave about 1 inch -from front of TV to the front of frame. All equipment for the TV, ie cable box, dvd player, AppleTV, can be hidden in a remote closet or closed cabinet -using a remote control that will communicate through the doors without a need for direct line of sight. Where did you put cable box, DVD ? Allen Construction: It is in one of the cupboards. I believe the one on the left.

15. Take the focus off the TV. If your room has a beautiful fireplace, let that be the focal point. And if your living room is the only space where you can put the flat screen, position it to the side on a swivel mount, rather than above the mantel. That way you can still comfortably watch TV when you want, but when it’s not in use, the screen can step back from center stage.
Paint the surrounding wall a notice-me color. Blue is a good choice here because blue and orange (the colors of firelight) are complementary colors, meaning opposite each other on the color wheel. When used together they offer maximum contrast: Blues look more intensely blue, and oranges look more orange. A bold blue such as this one will really make your orange-toned wood floors or other wood-clad features stand out and be noticed.
I didn't even notice it!
another wood background
I like cowboy statue
not too often an accent color behind tv- but better that wood surrounds
ok... instead of art.
I liked immediately - sometimes you can stare at something too long, then don't like it... funny.
I like at left
I looked at the fp and glass so much that the tv didn't show
with basic floor, and furniture - rough wood and jerseys nice. Blue functional accent all across.
