Where to Put a Sculpture In Your Home
Sculptures are one of the best types of art to purchase in order to add a neat design element to your home. They are three-dimensional and therefore difficult to ignore. However, their size can sometimes make it difficult for people to know exactly where to place them so that they are on display in the home without taking over the space.
The good news is that there are actually a lot of great places to put your sculptures. Large sculptures can be placed on display on pedestals, set to the side of a room on the floor or even added to the landscape of your yard. Smaller sculptures can be set on bookcases and window sills either individually or as a collection.
The trick to choosing the right place for your sculpture is to think about the function of the space before the design. A sculpture could look great in the center of a room but if it's a room that people are always walking through then it may not be efficient to have the sculpture blocking the way. When you choose the right space, you'll be able to make the other design elements (like color and lighting) work around it.

A window sill is a terrific place to display an entire collection of small sculptures. This one is ideal because it is a large window with a narrow window sill that isn't functional for much beyond just showcasing your stuff. The light coming through the window highlights the different pieces and creates a great gallery area for your display.
Around the fireplace is a terrific place to add sculptures since this is a place that we typically use to show off our beloved objects. Most people will put their sculptures on the mantle but I prefer this option of putting them on a bench or low table in front of the fire. It gives more depth to the entire space. Make sure that your sculptures aren't made of a material that will be harmed by the heat!
Here is another example of a mantle but the display of sculptures around it is entirely different. In this case, the sculptures are set off to the side of the room on shelves and pedestals. This is great in rooms where you want to make sculptures visible but keep them out of the way of foot traffic.
One really terrific way to showcase sculptures without worrying that they're taking up too much room in your home is to set them inside niches in the wall. You can even add lighting within the niche to truly show off the piece that you've placed there. If you don't want to create wall niches then you can put sculptures into deep bookcases to create the same effect.
This is another great example of how to keep sculptures out of the way but still on display. In fact, corners are a splendid place to display tall sculptures that can be set on the floor. The addition of the mirror here brings additional attention to this area of the room which helps to remind you that the sculpture is there for your enjoyment.
Another option for out-of-the-way-but-on-display sculpture presentations is to mount a small shelf on the wall and to display the sculpture on that shelf. The fact that the shelf is designed just to the size of the sculpture really makes the sculpture stand out and yet it doesn't interfere with the rest of the room.
Side tables are an ideal place to display small sculptures. This is commonly seen in living rooms where the sculptures will be seen most often. However, bedside tables in both master and guest bedrooms are another great place to display your sculptural art.
Even the bathroom can be a great place to display a sculpture if you have enough room for it. Here we see the sculpture on a small bathroom table. Another option is to set a sculpture on the corner of the bathroom sink or on the wall of a jacuzzi tub.
The exterior of your home is a terrific place to put a large sculpture if it is made out of materials that won't get harmed by the weather. This cow isn't something that I enjoy personally but I can see how it goes well with the natural landscaping of the yard.
Special sculptures may deserve special places in your home. In this case, we see a spiritual sculpture that has been placed inside of an indoor/outdoor meditation room that was built for the home. Anyone who has shrines or spiritual sculptures will want to find a particularly special place to put them.
