PERCHED
Yesterday I put together an ideabook of a lot of homes with spectacular views. As I was browsing (browzzing?) Houzz, I realized I needed an entire subcategory of homes that were perched like aeries in the the trees. I always loved treehouses in the strip of woods behind our house as a kid, and I still love the rustic structures one comes across in our national parks and nature centers that provide a simple bench and a great view. I think these architects must have loved that feeling too.
John Muir said "Between every two pines is a doorway to a new world." Taken quite literally, these homes provide that magic doorway.

From the architects: "Anchored into a steep hillside, this BAR design overlooks the Dry Creek Valley and is surrounded by vineyards. From the massive architectural concrete walls to the standing seam metal roof, this residence and guesthouse evoke a European feel." I couldn't have set it any better than that.
This is the picture from my "What a View!" ideabook that started this "Perched" idea. It is sited on the mountaintop among the trees like a big beautiful nest.
