While this is an older article, from the comments it appears to be timely across the years.

We just completed our main bath renovation. Any of the frustrations documented by commenters over the prior years is now impacted further by the supply chain delays. Luckily we were able to purchase the desired items, the delays in our case were due to the availability of contractors. During lockdowns and covid delays, contractors became very popular and we booked last September for jobs that couldn't be started until this past January. The 60" vanity I ordered from Lowe's is now unavailable.

I'm the type of person who buys the decor or large items, with multiple measurements, then gets the appropriate contractors or determines what DIY we can do. For the bath surround we knew what we wanted and contracted with them, but they couldn't do the electrical or plumbing, so we hired a separate contractor via Home Depot's recommendation for that job. It ended up he couldn't do the plumbing job that required turning a former 1 sink vanity into a double sink vanity, so had to hire a separate plumbing contractor for that.

The bath surround installation took 2 guys 2 days. The remaining work took over 15 days because that contractor had other simultaneous jobs in progress. I did the painting, backsplash and blind installation myself. And it did cost more because of having unbudgeted plumbers.

The prior 1960's bathroom had 1 inch peach tiles 90% up all the walls, beige tub and toilet. The tearout was extensive and nothing we would do on our own.

The mirrors are from Houzz, beachglass backsplash from Home Depot, vanity from Lowe's, light from Menard's. Shopping online means finding exactly what you want. I fell in love with the mirrors for our "glitzy coastal" theme.

Tub surround.

The only advice I have is this: be prepared for the unexpected, because it happens. Luckily I had enough funds to cover the extra needed for the plumbers.

I am currently redoing a small powder room. I have used Houzz for contractor recommendations and they have all been very professional (came on time, gave me bids in a timely manner, etc.)so I recommend reaching out to this website for contractors.

I am buying everything I need - sink, faucet, sconces, wallpaper, floor tile. We are keeping the current toilet.

My design is “wainscoting-with-wallpaper above”. The contractor will provide the wood.

The labor (plus wood) quotes were all around $9,000 except one contractor who was $8100 (and lives down my street about 4 miles away). Last week he brought 5 other contractors to look at the job to make sure his quote was/is accurate.

My materials are costing me about $2,000.

I live in Middle Tennessee so my labor costs might be higher or lower than your area, but a 27 square foot powder room is going to be anywhere from $10-12,000. This has settled the discussion of redoing our master bath. The time, cost and interference of our life isn’t worth it. Our house was built in 2010.
