Guest Picks: Primpin' Ain't Easy
The Benchwright double sink console is perfection in my opinion: distressed wood, double sinks, Carrara marble, three drawers, two cubbies with adjustable shelves, chamfer detailing. My husband would cringe at the price tag, but a girl can dream, right?
How about a laboratory-style sink? Sure, why not. The stainless steel cabinets actually look nice with the marble top — a kind of masculine-meets-feminine look. It's certainly different from the usual wooden cabinet base.
The mirror in my master bathroom is one huge piece mounted to the wall. It's plain. It's boring. It's nothing special. This Spritz mirror from Restoration Hardware would allow me to mount two separate mirrors, and the fact that the mirror tilts to provide the best viewing angle is an added bonus.
This sconce from West Elm has an outdoorsy feel to it. While it wouldn't provide the best lighting for a bathroom, it would certainly be a great option to have for accent lighting (possibly while taking a bubble bath or a relaxing shower).
What is it about chrome fixtures? I'm drawn to the shine like bees to honey. I love the modern look of this bath faucet from Ikea. It has a water-saving device, and if you lift straight up on the lever, you'll only get cold water — very clever!
I have wanted a floor-length mirror for as long as I can remember. This Parsons mirror from West Elm with a bone inlay is beautiful. It would look great propped up in a master bathroom, and you'd be able to give yourself one good look — hair, makeup and outfit — before heading out for the day, or night.
I love big-box home improvement stores. Seriously, I can stroll through them for hours. Had I seen this bathroom vanity during my last trip to the store, I would have stopped dead in my tracks. Although it's not a double vanity, its aged look and antique blue finish would make this go straight to the top of my "I Need This" list. It is a bit too girly for my husband's taste, but it would look so perfect in a bathroom with a claw-foot tub, don't you think?
Currently, I have what I like to call "Hollywood" lighting (you know, the big globe light bulbs that scream "I belong in a dressing room, not a bathroom") above the vanity in the master bathroom. This lighting is similar yet so very different at the same time. It would be a great way to change up my current lighting while keeping the effect I have grown to love.
The Ledskår faucet from Ikea is quite contemporary, maybe a little too contemporary for my taste. Although, I think it would look great in an updated bathroom, don't you agree? The faucet swivels, which is a nice feature that seems to only be found in kitchen faucets. The sleek design is appealing, but it's not too over the top. And, just like all Ikea faucets, this one has a water-saving feature. Your wallet will thank you.
Touchless sink faucets scream public restroom, but I love the idea of having touchless faucets in my home. This polished chrome faucet by American Standard would be a very welcome addition to my future master bathroom. No longer would I have to clean up soapy faucet knobs or fumble with turning on the faucet while washing my face.
The fun cut crystals in this vanity lighting add a touch of elegance, while the polished chrome harkens a refined, modern look. This has a nice blend of styles, and I can definitely see this fixture in my new bathroom.
When thinking about mirrors for my new bathroom, I can totally envision ripping down the current huge mirror and adding two smaller mirrors, one above each sink. While I like the look of circular and oval mirrors, I just don't think I would like them in the bathroom. I find myself drawn to rectangular mirrors with minimal enhancements. This Cavanaugh Espresso mirror is on my wish list, and I think it would look nice above the Seville sink console.
A towel stand is a nice option if you want to refrain from putting holes in the wall. It would also be a nice piece to have standing near your bathroom vanity. The Mercer towel stand from Pottery Barn has a polished nickel finish and can hold quite a few towels. I love the look of it and hope that I can use it in my bathroom remodel.
I love the oversize Sussex towel bar from Pottery Barn. It not only maximizes your towel bar space, but also has double hooks on each end for additional storage. The polished nickel finish is also very classy without being too over the top.
When thinking about new mirrors for the bathroom, I am not opposed to using a recessed medicine cabinet with a mirrored front instead of a standard mirror. I love a product that can multitask, and a medicine cabinet can certainly do that! This one from Pottery Barn is simple yet so elegant. I love the rounded corners and the beveled glass.
I love teak and think that adding teak into a bathroom creates a nice spa-like feel. This solid teak towel rack from Bed Bath & Beyond has an open design and a shelf for additional storage. At 34 inches tall and 23 inches wide, it also does not take up too much space in the bathroom.
If you haven't noticed, I'm not a fan of those bowl sinks, nor am I a fan of traditional cabinetry. I'm drawn to darker wood finishes. And I'll be honest, I like vanities that include a top because, well, I'm a bargain shopper and I want to get the most bang for my buck. This Hagen vanity in brown checks all of those boxes. I love the drawers, but I also love the extra space below the sink for storing towels and other accessories in fun wicker baskets.
I love the look of this trough faucet by Price Pfister. It appeals to the shabby chic part of me, but it also appeals to me because it is different from traditional bathroom sink faucets.
I currently have flush-mount lighting in part of the master bathroom. It's nice and it serves its purpose well. When my husband and I remodel the bathroom, I'm sure we'll want to continue the look. I just love the edges and clean lines of the Dalton Flushmount from Restoration Hardware. The opaque glass will give the bathroom a warm look while still providing an ample amount of lighting.More: 18 Sumptuous Vanities for Singular Bathrooms
The Seville single sink console from Pottery Barn is not too contemporary for my taste. While counter space might be lacking, it does provide ample storage and looks great doubled up as his-and-hers sinks. The espresso stain is also neutral enough to go with a variety of bathroom decor.
