Garden Ideas
Wow! I need something like this to keep our neighbor from seeing us when he gets on his roof to blow leaves off, when we are outside.
My simple arbor is planted not with a vine but with a weeping bald cypress (Taxodium distichum ‘Cascade Falls’, USDA zones 4 to 9). Many of its pliable, draping branches are intentionally left intact so the visitor has to physically part them to enter the space. They recall strands of beads that hung from door frames in the 1960s. Because the visitor must interact with the branches to gain access to the garden, a strong initial impression is created. Additionally, the arbor is well shaded by the cypress, creating a sense of journey by sending the visitor from darkness into light.
Wooly Lamb's Ear stachys byzantina copes well w/ poor soil as long as it is well drained, and loves sun, although it will tolerate shade. Divide plants every two/four years to prevent center of clump from browning. Like fairy ring in hosta.
Sweet Alyssum lobularia maritima zone 4-9 fragrant
misting nozzles or ultrasonic foggers available from specialty sources. Keep my hosta cool!
Umbrella used as a feeder would work

Wondered how they suspended a rain chain system. Interesting

Moving water from the roof into a stormwater planter is the question I wish to have answered.

So glad to see something from Debra Prinzing again. Let Nature have its way.
I found this shot elsewhere, and still like it. Well done!
edible front yards
I like the asymmetrical balance of the walk and containers, the simple design of the containers, the gray trim of the house repeated in the wrought iron chairs and the pots. Not a fan of ivy climbing the sides of a house due to moisture and bugs.
