S'field basement finish
The open side we would use is at least 40' long by 15' wide with the stairs taking a good chunk right along the left side. The open space is like an E missing the middle bar. There is a window at the end facing the bottom of the stairs, no other windows in the open space. Cable, electric boxes and gas line are all at the corner of the basement behind the stairs, what I am calling the utility side because of the low ceiling. I want to put a bar area in the narrower space opposite the stairs. One of the two wider areas would be for sitting, one for exercise equipment. I am waffling between MCM decor, up north lodge decor like the rest of the house, or Florida beach look, my latest craze. Light and airy looking, or warm and cozy? Husband has a collection of old advertising signs, including neon and some traffic signals that he would like to display. There are eight bare bulb ceiling fixtures in the side we will be decorating, so am looking for lighting options to replace those.
Currently the fourth picture down in the left column, bar with pebble facing, is the one I am really favoring, with the pebble and beach glass tile we used in our master bath in T'ville.
We are putting up sets of storage shelves to divide the utility and living areas, creating a movable, temporary wall. On the living end,We will mask the shelves with some wonderful shower curtains I found made to look like vintage travel posters. There are matching cusions for the seating. I have a calendar of Florida Highwaymen art that I plan to break up and frame to use in the seating area and a large world map. We have a large saddle tan leather sectional that will move to the basement sitting area, with a colorful outdoor rug.
In the exercise area, the shelves will be masked with plywood painted a dark color chosen by my husband. I plan to hang his collection of advertising art there, and set up his collection of traffic light and walk/don't walk signs so they light up the area for him, since he is giving up the window.
While cleaning basement, I found a wire wheel with tire on it, have no idea what it goes to. Thinking of creating a light fixture for exercise room, polish chrome, shine up the tire, figure out a way to put light in it, 2-4 halogen bulbs around the rim, maybe.
We are debating leaving the ceiling, painting it white or black, or adding some kind of covering. Here is a paintable wallpaper tin ceiling replica that might look pretty cool: http://www.papermywalls.com/collections/paintable-wallpaper-border/products/tin-ceiling-and-wainscoting-pressed-tin-replica-wallcovering-4

Here are some ideas: Create a backlit view window: http://homeguides.sfgate.com/make-fake-window-using-electroluminescent-sheets-36967.html I would love to use Micah's sunrise photo for this.
How about a backlit faux onyx panel for the bar top, with inserts for the bar front.
For the tiny spot for the half bath, we have a lot of sink/toilet combo ideas.
