We just did remodeled our mid century exterior and covered the brick and entire left side of our house in clear cedar shiplap siding. We stained it using olympic stain from lowes in the semitransparent color cedar naturaltone. We went through and tested what must have been 10 different stains including a plain clear coat. The cedar naturaltone is as close to the clear as possible but adds more protection and a bit more warmth.
Definitely wrap all the brick in cedar. There are too many textures going on with the brick. I think we might wrap the rest of our brick around the garage in cedar too. We still need to figure out a trim color and new door/door color and landscaping so that's still in progress.
If you want to go more mid century- use clear cedar. We paid around $1500 for ours to be milled. It was worth it to us to have a nicely finished product. After all, we only wanted to do it once and create a better curb appeal. Or else it will look more rustic but if hats your style then go for it.
definitely get rid of that overhang above the door if that's the route you are going like in the mockup created for you.
