We went to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston yesterday. I still had this thread in mind, and since the place was absolutely crawling with senior citizens, I studied what women were wearing. From my scientific study, this is my list of Glamour Dos and Donts (remember that?).
Don’t:
Baggy saggy pants, baggy saggy sweatshirts
Handbag with frayed, worn edges and not in a cool way
Super long gray hair that hasn’t been trimmed since 1988
Do:
Neat jersey top with jeans, very basic but with an interesting accessory like jewelry
Tunic top with slim pants or nice leggings
Good haircut
Interesting jewelry or scarf
Neat crossbody bag
I noticed that big bulky bags seemed to make older women look bigger, more tired somehow (you know, from carrying a 20 lb sack). The women who looked best had smart, neat haircuts and some kind of interesting/attractive accessory(ies).
The woman on the right had obv gray hair, in a very nice bob cut with a little bit of layering. Basic pink jersey top that was very flattering with her hair and skin, and jeans. Very basic but she looked great, I thought. (She was probably 65-ish.) What made me notice her was a, great hair and b, a really cute Orla Keily crossbody purse.
This woman was def over 70. I noticed her because her teal colored glasses matched her turtleneck (under her b&w check tunic sweater), and she was wearing funky dangly earrings. She doesn’t look as cool from the back as she did from the front but I was trying to be subtle with my picture taking. Points off for the big tote bag, I think.
I also thought this woman looked really good, again super basic jersey top and jeans but her clothes fit well, and she had a good haircut! Sooo many older women were wearing clothes that seemed 2 sizes too big. What is up with that?
