Guest Picks: DIY Craft Kits: Make Your Own Home Decor
I’m a big fan of kits. Something about the promise of everything you need in one little box is so fulfilling. Nothing else in life is that neat and easy. Then there is a joy in crafting and creating, especially when you can display the end results in your home to personalize your decor on another level. Plus, I suppose the theory is that by starting with a kit, you’ll become a whiz at the craft and be able to branch out on your own. And soon your home can be filled with chunky knit blankets, fox pillows and wire pomegranates if you get carried away.

Fox Woodland Pillow DIY Kit by Fluffed Animals - $26
I want to make a skulk of fox pillows for my couch. (I had to look up what a group of foxes was called.)
Loopy Mango Merino Double Rib Throw Knitting Kit - $242
I’m loving this chunky knit and that the pattern is for beginners. I wonder how big the needles are in this kit?
Needlepoint Houses Kit - $48
Needlepoint houses remind me of a kit I had as a kid. It just might still be in my old room somewhere.
Voltage Village Glowing House Kit - $33.95
This house kit includes electric paint — so it glows! Um, awesome.
Going Stag Jewelry Holder - $29
I would need about 30 of these kits to hold all my random, cheap jewelry.
4 Seasons of Embroidery - $58
There are many needlework kits on this site, but I love this Four Seasons of Embroidery set.
DIY Tea Towel Kit - $32
Stamp your own tea towels! I bet this would work with other stamps from the craft store too.
DIY Embroidery Wood Clock Kit
Make time more personal with a DIY embroidery wood clock.
DIY Embroidery Kit, 2014 Tea Towel Calendar
I’m also in love with this 2014 embroidery tea towel kit. Or maybe I’ll hold out for the 2015 version — where has the year gone?
Magnetic Terrarium - $19
Stick a succulent anywhere with this magnetic terrarium kit.
Knit Your Own Dog Kit, Beagle - $26.95
Knit your own dog! This one doesn't need to be walked.
Glitter-Dipped Photo Blocks - $22
Make glitter-dipped photo boxes. I have a bit of a love-hate relationship with glitter. I love the sparkle but not-so-love the stubborn dots of glitter that linger on your face, hands, walls forever.
Van Gogh 'Poppies' Paint-by-Number Kit - $23.95
Paint-by-number is not just for kids. I even got one for myself; I’ve just been too busy to open it. Anyone else have that problem with hobbies?
Wood Burning Set - $55
I’ve never tried my own wood burning, but I kind of want to.
Owl Basket Kit - $30.10
I’m pretty sure I need to learn how to crochet so that I can make a big owl basket.
Home Decor DIY Kit, Yoola Wire Crochet Pomegranate Kit - $67
Crochet your own wire pomegranates. I don't know why you would need this, necessarily, but it looks cool. And it's crocheted wire.
Gold-Dipped Vases Kit - $25
Fancy up your house with this gold-dipped vase kit.
Necklace Holder Kit - $25
I’m starting to fall in love with this shop. This is a make-your-own necklace holder.
DIY Geo Cement Planter Kit - $20
So it seems cement is big now, which is not something I thought I’d ever say. I kind of like the notion of something industrial and heavy shrunken down into a votive.
DIY Macrame Home Decor Kit - $20
Macrame: I think it’s making a comeback!
Color-Blocked Candles Kit - $30
I don’t usually buy candles after all those years of over-buying candles in the ‘90s, but these DIY color-block candles could make me change my mind.
