Guest Picks: Red All Over
Rooms lacking energy? Add a jolt of red in furnishings and accessories from retro cool to modern chic

Red isn’t a color for everyone, I know. But it’s my favorite color — probably because of its boldness — so I want to make a case for red in home decor. A lot of people find it too intense to handle, particularly in potentially costly interior design projects, but if you pick just one or a few red items to incorporate, you really can make a statement without screaming it. — Heidi from Hands Occupied
This 3D-printed lamp shade is so epic. Not only does it come in red, but it looks different from every angle and would bring unique texture to any room.
This bold wing chair is a statement in itself, straddling the lines between bold and simple, old and new. This is an excellent piece for adding some energy to your living room.
Paired with the wing chair above, this bold ottoman would transform a simple corner into a cozy reading nook.
I love that this tray is metal! The shiny finish will help other bold accent items stand out on an ottoman or a coffee table.
The crackle-effect glass in these candle lanterns will diffuse the light of a flame in really gorgeous ways. Get both sizes; they would look amazing on a porch or as the centerpiece at a summer barbecue. Sold separately.
This red striped dog bed’s piped edges and pattern make it look more like a nice throw pillow than Fido’s sleeping pad.
If you’re not quite ready to commit to a big red piece of furniture, it’s OK. You can incorporate red in subtler ways, like with this photographic print.
This clock is awesome. The number font and the spherical shape add so much interest to an otherwise plain alarm clock.
I just love the color and texture of this woven bamboo oval placemat. The visible weave adds a nice folksy element.
This storage brick is so fun! The picture doesn’t show the scale, but it is quite large (not toy size) and can be stacked, of course.
I know some people aren’t wild about Smeg refrigerators, but I love them — especially this one in my favorite color.
I want a few of these big red lockers for my garage, stat. What a great way to add some color to a bland space.
In my house we have a pileup problem. A stylish storage cubby like this would help solve it.
If red is an overwhelming color for you, trying a red print rather than a solid might be a good way to go. This floral quilt set is a great example of a less overwhelming red.
I am super into this bicycle-print throw pillow. The style of the bike on the fabric and the way the pillow is perfectly tailored to look like the bikes are riding around the pillow are spot-on.
Geometry fan? The triangle incorporated into the underside of this red end table takes it from crazy simple to crazy interesting to look at.
A set of retro-fabulous dining chairs is a fun and bold throwback. If you’ve got a hankering for a funky kitchen, these might be the right fit for you.
I’ve always wanted a shiny red stand mixer. They’re heavy, so it’s often easier to store them out in the open, making them a statement piece in kitchen decor.
Organize your books while adding some pop to your shelves. This set of contemporary bookends combines analog and digital style.
