Tabby Wall
Using coastal elements such as sand and shells, tabby walls provide a textured look
Tabby walls were originally constructed in coastal areas with a concretelike slurry of equal parts lime, shells, sand and water. The mix is poured into a wood frame and left to harden, then the boards are removed and set above the previous pour and the process begins again. The wall gradually grows taller with several layers of construction and curing time.
The stacking process used to pour the tabby walls in layers can be seen in the horizontal lines of this wall.
The shells of a tabby slurry are clearly visible in the risers and wall of this contemporary staircase.
