Materials:· Ikea Januari $10 or Hemma $5 pendant· 10’ roll of 6” aluminum flashing ( hardware store)· 1” x 36” x 1/8” aluminum flat bar (hardware store)· 18’ vehicle door edge trim molding (Wal-Mart)· 1/8” aluminum pop rivets (hardware store)· 16 gauge wire (hardware store)· Spray Paint (primer, gold, matte black)Tools:·Metal cutting tool (i.e. jigsaw or with metal cut blade, or Dremel with cutoff wheel)· Vice or block of wood and hammer for bending the aluminum bar· Drill and 1/8” drill bit·Rivet gun ·Shears or heavy duty scissors to cut the aluminum flashing· Safety gear: cut resistant gloves when handling sharp metal, goggles ...
1) First, create the top support for the light (Can omit if you re purpose an existing lamp spider. Instructions for custom hanging assembly does add extra support and stability for the light). Cut the aluminum flat bar into (3) 8-1/2” pieces. Bend one end of the aluminum bar 1/2” at 90° and bend the other end 1” at 60°, repeat on all three bars. Drill (1) 1/8” hole in the center of the 90° end. Align the three 60° ends together around the pendant rod so that the bent sections sit flush. Mark the alignment with a pencil and then drill two holes in each 1” section through the adjoining arm. Next, drill the holes to hang the lower tiers - 1/8” holes 1-1/2” and 3” in from the 90° bend. Fasten the three arms together with the rivet gun, slide pendant rod through. ...
2) Next, start constructing the tiers. Cut the aluminum flashing into 48”, 39” and 29” sections (15”,12” and 9” diameter tiers). To form the largest tier, wrap the 48” section of flashing around hanging assembly and mark the overlap, measure the three holes, 1” from the top and bottom and one centered, drill 1/8” holes (1/2” from the edge).
