Guest Picks: 20 Midcentury-Inspired Pieces for Today's Home
My home was built in 1956, so it should come as no surprise that I have a thing for midcentury modern design. I love the clean lines, warm wood tones and brassy accents that are associated with the MCM aesthetic. And I’m not the only one. Many of the furnishings and home decor accessories offered today are a nod to the popular design era. Here are some of my favorites at the moment. — Dana from House Tweaking

Contemporary Conrad Modern Wood Table Lamp - $99.98
I love the angled wood base of this handsome table lamp. It comes complete with a pull chain for a true vintage experience.
Control Brand The Finnmark Coffee Table - $1,050
During the midcentury era, brass was commonly used to warm up a space. This copper coffee table in a warm brass finish would do just that in today’s living rooms. I particularly love the thick cylindrical base.
Huggy Mid-Century Chair and Ottoman - $1,359.99
They call it "Huggy" for good reason! With a high curved back and an enveloping silhouette, this chair and ottoman combo would make for a perfect reading spot in a family or living room.
Large Pixley Mirror - $502.50
At one time starburst mirrors were thought to be a short-lived trend, but I truly believe that they are an iconic design that deserves to hang around forever. I'm especially fond of starbursts with dainty, fine spikes like this one. They feel less severe and more casual than their chunky counterparts.
Reeve Midcentury Coffee Table, Marble/Walnut - $499
This marble and wood coffee table is the ideal size for small spaces. The brass-tipped legs are a luxe detail.
Mezzo Mod Serving Dish/Planter, Citrus - $108
Display fruit or finds from nature in this tabletop dish. The red-orange hue and leggy base give it a midcentury vibe.
Slat Bench, Natural - $190.99
I actually have this bench in my family room, and it’s so versatile! It can stand in as a coffee table, and I use a marble cutting board on top to create tabletop displays and keep decorative items from slipping through the slats.
Robert Abbey Jonathan Adler Meurice Wall Sconce, Antique Brass - $355
I saw this wall sconce and immediately envisioned a pair flanking a masculine buffet in a formal dining room. I would put them on dimmers for a mood-altering experience.
Gus Modern Truss Chair, Cabana Husk - $895
The lines of this chair's frame are reminiscent of midcentury design, but the choice of natural oak gives it a fresh, organic look.
Crosby Armchair, Painted Stripe, Regal Blue - $849
I could see a pair of these slim-armed upholstered chairs opposite a handsome leather sofa in a living room. I love the imperfect, hand-painted stripes.
Draper Lamp - $132
With dual lamps and an iconic design, this light would be perfect on a console in an entryway, on a desk in a home office or even on a dresser in the bedroom.
Parker Midcentury Expandable Dining Table, Walnut - $599
This dining table is all about form and function. With shapely legs and the ability to expand, it has the best of both worlds: good looks and practicality.
Fine Mod Imports Wire Bar Stool - $169.99
Pull up three or four of these classic wire stools to a large kitchen island for a casual yet stylish dining experience.
Baxton Studio White Plastic Rocking Chair - $104
You can't think about midcentury design without thinking of Eames. This is a reproduction of the original rocker with a molded seat, and I like the idea of using it in a nursery, family room or playroom. It's perfect for children and adults alike.
Midcentury Architectural Landscape Home Photograph by Lucy Snowe Photography - $100
Modern day art that features midcentury design is a great way to introduce an MCM vibe into your home. I fell in love with this large photography print of a modern house.
Midcentury Cinderblock Home Photograph by Lucy Snowe Photography - $20
Here's one more photography print of an MCM exterior because I can't get enough of this artist!
The Circle Pot, White - $112
A hanging circle pot is a modern way to bring live greenery indoors. Use it in near a window in a living room, sunroom or bedroom.
Ludo Chair - $648
The rounded, squatty seat and skinny, angled legs of this retro-looking chair are a good lesson in contrasts that work. With its low profile and padded arms, this chair would be a great kid-friendly option in a family home.
Franco Albini Rattan Ottoman Pouf by Fern Hill Road - $200
Bringing touches of rattan to a midcentury aesthetic adds texture and interest. This vintage ottoman from the 1950s does just that, and the spherical shape helps break up all the linear designs that go along with the MCM aesthetic.
Nelson Cigar Wall Sconce
Hang the Nelson Cigar wall sconce in a corner above a comfortable chair for the perfect cozy reading spot.
