Ugly Bathroom
This is the ensuite to the master bedroom in my house. The house was built in the 30s or 40s. My old plumber (may he rest in peace) told me a little about the history of the home. Apparently there had been another house that had burned down and this one was built over it. Believe it or not, some upgrades have already been made to this ugly thing. It originally had beige carpet that was stained and disgusting after years of being splashed with water.
The green striped walls are not wallpaper-- they are wood paneling with the pattern printed on them. The other ensuite has the same pattern in blue and white.
Another upgrade, necessitated by the floor rotting, is the toilet. The original toilet was an avocado green thing (not sure what brand). It broke after it was moved outside so I don't have pictures.
Funny story on the rotting floor-- there was only one layer of floor under the carpet (and later linoleum). No moisture barrier or extra subfloor under the top layer. So when the septic tank backed up and broke the wax seal on the toilet, it rotted the floor to the point that one day, while Doofusaurus was sitting on the old toilet, the floor collapsed and the toilet started to fall through but hit a joist and fell over instead.. It sent Doofusaurus crashing to the floor in a puddle of filth. The floor was roughly patched with OSB (not by me) and the new Toto Drake was installed (I actually did help with that one).
Update: March 23, 2014. I've been trying to learn more about DWV systems and discovered that the vanity hookup is no longer to code. I can only guess that this was allowed at some point in time, but the rules have changed and S traps are no longer allowed.

The pipes inside the wall move back and forth when trying to turn the knobs. As you can see, the original knobs have been replaced. The hot water one has to be turned at least 3 full rotations before water even comes out at all. Hot water has to be turned clockwise and cold has to be turned counterclockwise to work.
