Hi Carol and 23442344 - A golden rectangle is a rectangle whose longer side is .618 longer than the shorter side. It was believed by the Greeks to create perfect proportions and has been used in classical (the Parthenon) and contemporary (Le Corbusier) architecture to help design buildings. Landscape designers/landscape architects sometimes use them in sizing seating areas, pergolas, etc. If you google "landscape design golden rectangle", you will find books, blog posts, and other info on the subject. Very close to the golden rectangle or golden ratio is the fibonacci series, which is a sequence in which each number is the sum of the previous two. The sequence is both commonly seen in nature (found in the arrangement of stems, etc) and used in classical art and architecture. Again, a google search will yield more complete information.
