Guest Picks: Two for Dinner
Most of my dinners are rushed and a race to bedtime, and I hardly enjoy them. I’d like to try to make meals more special by adding a few romantic touches to the table.
Dining with your loved ones can be simple or sophisticated, and I’ve picked a range of items to inspire you to add some romance to your evening — even if you still have to put the kids or the dog to bed a little early. — Mariko from The Little Foodie
If you want to avoid putting more things on the table, string up your lighting. These cotton ball–style lights are my favorite.
Not only is this unusual glassware beautiful, but it captures the color of your drink in a new way.
I don’t drink, but I can appreciate that these “elixirs” are entirely romantic and gorgeous to look at.
If you want to buy some flowers for your loved one, or just dress up the table, try a narrow vase. A single flower makes a statement without getting in the way of conversation.
If someone is making dinner, don’t you need an apron? I especially like that this one could be his or hers.
Any time I get out “the linens,” it’s time for a fancy meal. Just setting up the expectation that this is a special night will help set the mood.
How about a romantic deep red touch for your dinner? These napkins are definitely the perfect color.
I’m imagining strawberry and cucumber infusions for a refreshing addition to your meal. What I especially like about this kind of infuser is that I get the flavor but not the clunky chunks in my glass.
This carafe is an elegant touch when you don’t have a waiter to refill your water glasses all evening.
Alessi bowls are simple and elegant, and this aptly named “Super Love” bowl and its colored stainless steel makes it onto my serving list.
And to go with your new salad bowl, why not add some sleek and romantic serving spoons?
Get out the special plates — you know, the ones you love but never use. These handmade dishes are delicately romantic.
Stretching out the meal and lingering together over a cup of coffee, tea or hot chocolate is a good idea.
Another option is to try a picnic to change up the routine. Grab this compact and functional basket and sit on the living room floor or out in the yard. Changing the space gives you a chance to change how you interact with your significant other.
Add a stylish blanket to lounge on for your private and impromptu picnic.
The raised edges of these simple picnic plates are light and very functional for off-table eating.
The warmth of soup is even better when you get to hold the bowl in your hands. And there’s something more sensuous about a dinner that requires less tableware.
Purefizz is a very portable soda maker, which could be great for your picnic — or really, any time. I love the idea of being able to control the flavor and amount of sugar too.
Chocolate fondue for dessert just tops off the romantic evening. This set saves you the trouble of spending too much time on dessert.Next: Discover Your Dining Table Style
