My family and I recently moved into a farmhouse with open shelving, a marble backsplash and butcher block countertops. If the faux wood-handled flatware is dishwasher safe, faux might not be a bad thing. I've seen a lot of nice wood-handled kitchenware turn up at Goodwill, no longer so nice, because it had been thrown in the dishwasher too many times over the years. Much depends on whether it's a nice faux or a phony faux, of course...
