Guest Picks: Kitchen & Bath Industry Show Finds
From musical vibrations to walk-in tubs, the 2012 Kitchen & Bath Industry Show had something new for everyone's bath
Some fabulous new products were shown at the Kitchen & Bath Industry Show this year. Here are the latest finds for the room we all use, but often neglect — the bathroom! Many of these items can be seen at Chicago's Merchandise Mart Luxe Home showrooms. — Jen from Second City Soiree
Modern Bathtubs
Ever hear a song you love so much, you wish you could bathe in it? Now, thanks to Kohler and their VibrAcoustic bath series, you can. Just plug in your iPod and let the vibrations of the beats flow through the water.
Lilies Lore Nature's Chemistry Cast-Bronze Under-Mount Bathroom Sink
Cast-bronze sinks have been around for ages, but this modern shape and gorgeous pattern offers a fresh interpretation.
This is such a unique marble cut! These vein-cut tiles are linear and directional, unlike the typical swirled marble we're used to seeing.
It's not stone, it's petrified wood! This durable and rare tile would make for a luxurious and warm bathroom.
I love the feeling of movement on these hand-painted tiles. They would make a dramatic accent wall or backsplash.
Shagreen Tile
Shagreen, which is made from stingrays, is a super-exotic choice for wall tile. Sourced from Indonesia, these tiles are used from the by-products of rays that have been harvested for food.
Contemporary Showers
Many shower enclosures look prefab and clunky, but not this one! Besides the modern glass look, this system offers bathers full control of their shower's temperature and volume from outside and inside. Perfect for both young and old, a glowing LED light indicates water temperature, and an alloy valve prevents sudden changes in temperature, preventing a shocking surprise (or worse, a scald).
Pyrite Tile
These gorgeous polished pyrite tiles can be mixed and matched with different sizes and colors.
Beveled Edge Antiqued Mirror Hand-Silvered Tile
Subway tiles have been popular for a while, but how about mirrored subway tiles for a fresh twist?
Chrysanthemum Calacatta Gold With Mother Of Pearl
If you want to create a bath fit for a queen, be sure to include this unforgettable "Chrysanthemum" pattern, complete with inlaid mother of pearl.
Glass Wall Shelf
If you crave sleek style in the bath, turn to fashion designer Jason Wu. His new line for Brizo includes this understated glass shelf.
Freestanding Soap Pump
This chic square soap pump, also by Jason Wu, has a style reminiscent of his Brizo faucet.
Caravan Collection Nepal On Caxton Under-Mount Bathroom Sink
For an exotic flair, consider a decorative basin like this one by Kohler. Add gold accent pieces to offset the blue.
Modern Bathroom Faucets
Hands-free! Simply tap the faucet with your finger (or a bare elbow or forearm, if your hands are full) to control the water flow.
Modern Bathtubs
This bath provides a stylish alternative to traditional walk-ins with an extra-wide opening, grab bar and chair-height seat for easy entry and exit. It fits a standard 60-inch bath footprint.
Mosaic Niche Kit
This ready-to-go kit creates the perfect little niche to put anything. It comes with everything you need, and is available in a variety of colorways.
HydroRail Shower Column
This system converts your existing fixed showerhead to a handshower and rainhead combination. It's such a quick and easy remodel! A slidebar bracket allows for customized heights, perfect for both short and tall members of your family.
Contemporary Showers
The Twist allows bathers to quickly switch between four spray settings with a flick or your thumb — handy for those early mornings when hand-eye coordination has yet to kick in.
Ziva Bianco Carrara Marble Leaves Honed And Polished Dimensional Field Tile
This hand-carved stone pattern is created by master craftsmen in India using traditional techniques. The sculptural stone panels combine matte and glossy finishes. The overall effect is warm with a luxe touch of movement.
