8 Color Looks to Enhance Traditional Rooms
Modern style gets a lot of love these days, but traditional homes can feel just as fresh with paint picks like these
While many young homeowners have shifted away from traditional design, this classic style deserves a second look — an old-school design style can be colorful and fresh. If you've purchased an older house, a traditional look will be in keeping with your home's architecture. Or maybe you've inherited traditional furniture and you're not sure how to incorporate it into your space. One way to accomplish this is by using color in a way that will make your room look and feel classic. Here are some colors to try.
Red. Red is the ultimate traditional hue, but it can be too bold for some people. If you'd like to try just a little dose of this color, go for crimson accent fabrics.
Green. Yellow-greens and sage greens are often seen in traditional rooms. These colors lend a natural, organic feel to a room.

Black and white. Black and white checkered flooring is a staple in traditional design. Black and white not only signifies elegance, but it also works with any other hue — like the spring-green wall color featured in this photo.
Multicolor. If you've inherited or purchased a traditional upholstered piece, consider having it recovered in a fun multicolored fabric. This Victorian settee looks fab and fresh with its striped fabric (and check out the mismatched pillows).
Blue and green. Blue and green are represented in the American colonial color scheme and many other historical palettes. Used together, these colors create a serene look that is in keeping with a traditional style.

Blue. Soft sky blue and denim blue work well in classic spaces. These types of blue will bring an authentic look and a refreshing feel to your space. In this traditional master bath, I used Sapphireberry by Behr.
Yellow. Warm yellows just seem to always work in a traditional setting. In this pretty bedroom, a pale yellow tint creates a space that is light and airy.
