How to Use Mirrors in Home Design
The first thing that you have to realize is that mirrors can be used in every single room. They can be conversation pieces and works of art. They can reflect light and create new dimensions in a space. Or they can be subtly incorporated into the design of a room to enhance the total look of the home.
To choose mirrors for home design, you have to look at the size, shape and style of the mirror. You also have to carefully consider placement. And it wouldn't hurt to think about places where multiple mirrors may be appropriate in your place. Done correctly, mirrors become more than something that you merely look into but something that you actually want to look at!
This photo shows how a mirror is a terrific way to show off a great light from all angles! If you have anything hanging in your home that deserves specific attention, you can use a carefully placed simple mirror to draw all eyes in the room towards that object so that the mirror plays a terrific supporting role in the design of the room.
if you have a narrow hallway in your home then you may seriously want to think about adding a big mirror to the space. The mirror will open up the area so that you don't feel confined within it. Put some interesting artwork on the surrounding walls and see them interestingly reflected in the mirror.
Even if a mirror doesn't take up the entire living room, it can play a key part in the design. This example is one of my favorite mirrors. The metalwork around the mirror is artistic and interesting. It adds to the motif of the room without taking away from the interesting artwork and pillows that are also attention-getters here.
Living rooms are a great space for installing a super-large mirror. These mirrors serve as art pieces while also opening up the space with the big reflection of the room. They also create more light in the space because of their reflections. Choosing a simple but interesting design is a great way to go when selecting a mirror as big as this for a room.
This is a great example of how a mirror can be functional while also serving as a work of art. The mirror itself is large enough to serve the purpose of a space to review your look for the day. However, the design around the mirror creates a work of art that is so stunning as to require no other art on the walls here. Choosing a large mirror with a unique but simple shape is a great way to go when selecting a bedroom mirror.
This example shows how a mirror can actually be incorporated into the rest of a room's design in a subtle way. The bold colors throughout the room combined with the simple shape, size and placement of the mirror make it so that the mirror doesn't stand out at all. However, it's still a great functional place to stop and take a look at yourself before leaving the house.
Don't forget to consider the color of your mirror when choosing one for your home. Whether it's in the bathroom or somewhere else, the mirror should be chosen to improve the space where it is located. Selecting a color that matches or compliments the room's paint helps to make the mirror an integrated part of the design.
Alternatively, you can keep the standard rectangular or square shape of a mirror but choose an ornate design to bring something interesting to your bathroom. This one gives you a moment's pause where you can take a deep breath and do a little bit of daydreaming in your bathroom before you embark upon your day.
The bathroom is one of the most obvious places to hang a mirror but that doesn't mean that you need to go with the obvious when selecting your glass piece. Instead of just a traditional rectangular mirror over your sink, choose a mirror with a more unique shape. Even though this one is simple in design, the oblong oval shape makes it stand out as a decor piece in the room. The way that the oval is mirrored in the shape of the sink and then set off by the rectangular lights on either side creates a really interesting look. The placement of the sink and mirror here are nice as well since what you see in the mirror is the nature behind you.
This is a really great example of how mirrors can be used as artwork in a home. Here we have a collection of small mirrors, primarily hand mirrors, that have been hung haphazardly to create an artsy look on the wall. The wall is narrow and tall which is perfect for laying out the mirrors in a way that doesn't make them overwhelm the senses as you walk by. It's a curious design technique and one that I find to be really interesting!
