Zis residence: modern and warm
Let your dreams come true
When Hagai and Rona Zis started planning their dream house in Herzliya, a city located 20 minutes north of Tel Aviv, they had a clear message for their architect: keep it simple.
Hagai and Rona are in their mid 30s and have three children: Noa (7) Tamar (5) and Yotam (2). They moved to their new 3000 sqft home in September 2007 after 2.5 years of planning and building their house.
“We wanted a contemporary house. We both had a vision of clean lines and classic design. Modern but yet warm.” says Hagai, sitting in their beautiful patio surrounded by Mediterranean trees and flowers.
The couple knew that building from scratch would require a lot of energy and efforts, but they both were determined to build the house of their dreams, a house that will be perfect for their young family and will serve them for many years to come.
The architect, Meir Guy, knew the family for quite some time so it was just natural for them to first consider working with him. “We met with Meir and really liked his ideas. We also liked the fact that he was very open to our ideas and that he really wanted to help us make our dream house come true” says Rona.
Inside and outside connection
When you enter the Zis’s house, you can’t miss the magnificent garden that can be seen from every corner of the house, through the big windows.
“The indoor-outdoor connection was a key point for us. Our family spends many hours at the patio and back yard. We wanted to have a functional house with a natural flow between the inside and the outside. We wanted to see a lot of green when we are in the house. We are also very lucky that our lot is surrounded by mature trees. We picked a transparent fence that helps bring the surroundings into our back yard but at the same time keeps our privacy”.
The result is indeed beautiful. The house has seamless vision between interior and exterior. “The landscape architect Barak was very involved in the design. He did a great job of breaking down the boundaries and creating a powerful connection between in and out. We completely trusted him and we love the result”.
Modern but warm
“We wanted a modern house that will be bright and have simple and clean lines. At the same time it was important for us to create a warm atmosphere in the house. I think that we accomplished both” says Hagai.
The warm atmosphere was created by using wild African wood for several elements- the entrance door, the kitchen island and the stairs. Also contributing to the warm feel is the use of red color for several pieces of furniture and cabinets.
“We really wanted a house that would feel comfortable to live in with the kids- not a museum or an architect fantasy, but a happy and fun place for all family members. Our house is just like that- it’s perfect for us.”
We couldn’t make it without them
The Architect, Meir Guy was very creative, came up with good ideas but was also open and sensitive to our dreams and ideas.
The Landscape Architect, Barak: is a top notch professional. We gave him a lot of freedom in the landscape design and he created a small heaven for us.
The Construction Supervisor, Erez Gabay made sure that the work was done with the best quality while adding his own ideas along the way. We couldn’t do it without him.
