Guest Picks: Hollywood Regency Glam
The Hollywood Regency style began as a movement in the 1930s with designers such as Dorothy Draper and Billy Haines and reached its apex mid-century. Easily identifiable elements of the style include lacquer finishes, mixed metallics, mirrors, chinoiserie (or Chinese-influenced designs), neoclassic touches, plush and rich fabrics, and exotic surprises such as fur, hides and skins to suggest that the owner is as well-traveled as a Hollywood starlet.
To achieve this look, just ask yourself, "What would Jean Harlow do?"— Ann Marie from Twice Lovely
A bust of a greek goddess: It's eccentric, grand and a little egotistical — everything Hollywood Regency should be. I love it.
Check out the crystal cabriolet legs on this tufted bench! They're so elegant.
I like surprising pops of exotic elements in Regency design. This soft taupe and silver zebra patterned rug is gorgeous.
I could definitely see Greta Garbo lounging on this stunning chaise. The deep maroon is certainly dramatic, and the chenille gives you the look of lush velvet without the difficult upkeep. Win!
This table lamp, quite literally, took my breath away. The mother-of-pearl mosaic is stunning.
Who knew you could even get a glam ceiling fan? There are many parts of the world where a ceiling fan is a necessary evil, but who says they have to be an eyesore? I love this chrome and crystal number!
Hollywood Regency interiors can tend towards the monochromatic, so be sure to infuse life in your glam design with a brightly colored accent. Chinoiserie pieces like this are perfect for injecting some fun color.
Don't neglect what's underfoot in your Hollywood Regency–inspired room. This silver shag rug would play beautifully in a sea of mixed metallics.
Nothing says plush opulence like lots of tufting. This stunning bed looks so high-end but is surprisingly affordable from Overstock. This white option is gorgeous, but don't overlook the black one for some extra drama.
The bright silvers and golds in Regency-style spaces are the most commonly recognized, but don't forget the more subdued and subtle tones in your mixed metallic scheme. I love the bronze of this Nate Berkus vase from Target. Plus, the faceting reminds me of bamboo, which is so key to a successful Hollywood Regency look.
I love Nate Berkus (who doesn't?), and I love that Target has made his designs affordable. This gilded candleholder brings some romance, and what Regency-esque room doesn't need romance?
Luxe textiles are a key element in a Hollywood Regency interior, and this ivory faux fur throw from Target won't break the bank, but will still add richness and opulence to your room.
This side table with its interesting shape and mirrored finish is an affordable way to add some Hollywood Regency glam to your bedroom or living room.
The design of this sofa is just so over the top, which was a big part of the Hollywood Regency style of the 1930s. They went big, or went home. Add some white fur throw pillows, and this piece could not possibly get more glam.
Lacquer? Check. Metallic? Check. Chinese motif? Check. This chair would be perfectly at home in front of a mirrored writing desk.
Lacquer finished and upholstered with rich, moody velvet, this petite settee would be fab at the foot of the bed in a Hollywood Regency boudoir.
There's really just no missing in a Regency-inspired interior with mirrored and mixed metallic finishes. This piece is a grand slam.
The shape of this mirror is a nod to chinoiserie, which was so popular in the Hollywood Regency style. The mixed metallics also make it a great choice for going glam.
Don't neglect the fixtures when decorating a room in the Regency style. The mirrored finish on this pendant screams glam!
I don't know if I could ever bring myself to spend this kind of moolah on an accent, but I'm in love with this pagoda mirror in the bright red lacquer finish. It's oh-so-Regency!Next: So Your Style Is: Hollywood Regency
