If you do try and sand your floor this video on diaginal sanding could help. 3mm scraped may be a challenge. The density of the core will come into place. You have to avoid a soft core so your floor doesn't dent easily.

I would keep the Eng. wood floors or replace with another lighter colored one. Looks like your current floor is with Hand scraped texture. It may take more money and time to sand and refinish it if your floor has a thicker enough wear layer to start with.

Engineered wood floors, usually, have enough of a wear layer for at least 1 sanding or refinishing.
