So I took a scrap 1x6 I had laying around to make a quick sample so I could see it in person (so disregard the different grain patterns). If we move forward with this i'll likely purchase a 1x8 to use.
The 1x6 is only 3/4" thick whereas the block was a full 1" thick. This creates a small 1/4" gap from the base molding instead of the previous 1/2" gap with the block. How do I get shoe molding around a 3/8 - 1/4" variance?
It may be worth noting that the vertical molding is 3/4" thick too, so ripping it thinner I don't think is an option because it would then stick past.
On a side note, I played around with the other side a little and came up with this. Oddly enough, my wife actually likes it a little better but I think that's only because the show flows nicely around. If it isn't obvious already, both of us are design challenged.
