OK...I'm going to talk about the elephant in the room here: Laminate floors do not like kitchens nor spray areas. Even the Pergo XP has limitations on moisture. The warranty is void if you use "spray mops" or "jet mops"...hmmmmm...doesn't sound like this should go in a kitchen.
If you remove the kitchen (and presumably the oak cabinets) from the picture, you can have whatever gray pergo floor you want!!!!! Because it won't be in the kitchen! Tah Dah! Problem fixed!
But in all seriousness, Pergo (as good a name as it is), has BIG issues with puddles of water (like the dog's water dish) and STEAM from a DISHWASHER. Pergo, like all other traditional laminate floors, can fail inside of 3-5 years in the presence of dishwasher steam or consistent puddles of water (like under a dog's bowl). Many people have complained that their "name brand" Pergo turned out to be just as easily damaged in "spray zones" as the $0.79/sf laminate available at discount flooring stores.
You can have your gray coloured floors and your kitchen oak cabinets too. Please leave the Pergo OUT of the kitchen. That way you can have a kitchen with a floor that will work better with the oak. It is a win-win situation (if you think about it that way).
