Thanks to you both. The showroom example of the Pella door that I saw was roughly the same width at 10', but in fact roughly 4" taller than we need. So pretty big. As to warranty, I can and will check again, but they insist that they install at that size, will not allow the GC to do so. So that may in part be related to warranty.
To WoW, where we live, the southern tip of Vancouver Island, is the most temperate climate in Canada. Think of us as the northern California of Canada. Most of our windows & sliding door look east by northeast. We get very direct rising sun in the mornings, and are in the habit of having blinds down until mid-morning, once the sun is above the horizon.
And yes, it seems confirmed now that the door is Cardinal 270 glass (confirmed by the Pella rep yesterday), so the BIG QUESTION at this point is whether I can achieve the best similarity in view through between the door and the Milgard windows if I have the spec changed to SunCoat (not Max). Presumably this makes both door and windows both Candinal Low E 270, if nothing else.
I'm assuming here that with Milgard, SunCoat shows less perceived tint than SunCoat Max. Any comments?
In the quote details, both door and the larger windows claim a VT spec of .51. This is with the door being 270, and the windows spec'd as 366.
It may in fact be that Pella have specified a bronze bias with their implementation, and if there's a spoiler in my plan, that may be it. But if the SunCoat at least looks slightly less green than Max (?????), that would help. If for some bizarre reason that I can't anticipate, Max actually looks less green, that would be important to know. (In color science terms, if the 3rd pass would be tinted toward red, it would partially neutralize green.)
For anyone who cares, Pella's black (at least for the exterior on the Architect Series) is much more a true, darker black than Milgard's Black Bean, which is a slightly chalkier black. (Using the Color Sampler tool in Photoshop, Black Bean measures RGB values of 49, 48, 48. True, absolute black is 0, 0, 0. By comparison, Pella's black is more like 28, 28, 28. Take these numbers as approximates.)
Thanks
Brian
