forgot to add this. (don't know if you've ever painted over older wood. If you want a professional looking job that will last, you must follow these steps. ditto for the vanity. I've painted over a hundred wood items from vanities, cabinets, dressers, etc. trust me on this one. )
All that dark wood is very dated and rather depressing looking. paint everything. vanity, trim, door, casing. Easiest way to brighten up the room.
Make sure to clean the wood well to remove grease/grime. Then sand. you want to really remove that old top coat, so go start w/100 grit and finish up w/a 220-320 sanding sponge. wipe clean w/mineral spirits. use your hands to feel for rough spots. all the wood should feel smooth and clean.
Now prime it with an oil base primer like Zinsser. (I like the spray can because it's easy to use, but you will have to tape and plastic off everything not getting painted) Otherwise, use the canned primer. once it's primed, go over it again w/a 220 grit and wipe away all dust until it feels smooth and clean.
Now you can paint. use a paint meant for wood trim. I like Advance, Pro-classic, or any of the other newer paints specifically meant for wood pieces. dont' use a regular latex paint for drywall
