We installed trex decking on our new build on the Tennessee River in Alabama. When the wind is out of the south, we get a very loud howling noise, sometimes it even changes pitch! After reading of others
having this problem, we decided to experiment with solutions. Not wanting to cover our deck as some suggested, we tackled it from the underneath side. We installed landscape fabric underneath and secured with furring strips. The landscape fabric allowed water to seep through, but was dense enough for the air to not howl when passing through. Problem solved. We have had very high winds since we installed this, and so far we have had no howling! We plan to install lattice over this for a more finished look, but it has solved our problem. We hope this helps others!
