I agree mojavemaria, and those I know already do a lot to avoid wasting water.
I am just concerned because our political leaders here are, in my view, inept and they send mixed messages. On the one hand, they want us to cut water use, and on the other, they want to build more and more housing. Literally, they are trying to force every city in this state to increase the housing. Well, that doesn't make sense. (For one thing, it's not going to be affordable new housing. Quite the opposite! That's the one thing we know for certain will not happen. But to be clear, I'd still be against it.)
I have read large parts of the excellent book Cadillac Desert, but at some point, I had to stop because what is the point? These huge errors have already been made. All these millions of people are here. Wearing a hairshirt kind of seems beside the point.
I hope that we, as humans, will fully reverse CC, and I think technologically we probably can. But politically? There, we aren't doing so well.
I am sorry to whinge - this is definitely not aimed at you, or at gardengal who is so generous with her excellent advice. It is all just rather depressing right now.
