3. Sheet Metal by Dunn Edwards
This Phoenix kitchen had two small islands that weren’t functional, so designer Alisha Taylor opted for one large island with a sink for the remodel. “Having the sink conveniently located in the island helps with prep and cleanup,” she says. The dark blue adds a dramatic splash of color without overwhelming the space.

4. Blue Note by Benjamin Moore
Jeremy Butler-Pinkham of JBP Architects chose a blue island and lower cabinets to pull in some of the other materials in this Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, kitchen. “We selected this particular color to complement the natural red tones of the brick backsplash,” he says. “The blue also picks up on the blue-gray tones of the integrally colored concrete floors and blackened-steel range hood.”

6. Van Deusen Blue by Benjamin Moore
Because the kitchen is located in the center of this home in Richmond, Virginia, designer Lee Harmon Waters of Contented Interiors opted for a vibrant shade of blue that wouldn’t come across as gray. “Since sunlight reveals color, I knew we would need to go with a little more vibrant of a deep blue to add a bit of zest to the kitchen,” she says.

8. Newburg Green by Benjamin Moore
While the name of the paint color on the island in this Pleasanton, California, kitchen might make you think it’s green, “it’s definitely more blue than green,” Julienne Barrett of Ridgecrest Designs says.
The island color also provides a bit of a surprise while working well with the other materials. “It’s unexpected and successfully ties all the components of the design together,” she says. “It complements the gold tones in the hardwood floor, the natural tones of the views outside and the rich walnut color of the perimeter cabinetry.”
