8. Shipshape Bunks
Despite being tiny, this bedroom in a vacation house in Westhampton Beach, New York, sleeps four, thanks to built-in bunk beds and a daybed with a trundle. “In a lot of ways we had to treat this house like a boat. We took advantage of every nook and cranny with shelves or benches, like the one at the window,” says designer Jessica Gething.
Other details include swiveling reading lights (a Charlotte Perriand reissue), shiplap-wrapped walls and window treatments made from hand-woven textile from South America.

A girl’s bedroom in Moscow connects to her sister’s via a little shuttered window with latches on both sides, a fun feature that the duo insisted on, says designer Olesya Fedorenko of HomeNature.
A cushioned window seat, a compact bookcase and desk, an abstract-pattern rug and a serene violet, white and light wood color scheme round out this contemporary space.

3. Lofty Design
Not a centimètre was wasted in this child’s bedroom in Paris by designer Marie-Sophie Donnedieu. Its custom-built birch plywood structure features a lofted bed that uses a niche in the wall as a nightstand. A closet below, painted in soft pink, also takes advantage of the niche and is sandwiched between a narrow bookshelf and a trim desk.
The piece’s depth did not allow installation of a standard staircase, so Donnedieu designed a clever, alternating-tread staircase that saves floor space and hides drawers for additional storage. Dark floral wallpaper and a lacy rattan chandelier add sophisticated flourishes to the efficient design.

A playful salmon-pink wall (Sherwin-Williams Oleander at 50%) pops in this transitional-style Dallas bedroom by Haynsworth Custom Homes. Folded Roman shades soften the black frame of a large picture window surrounded by built-in storage painted in crisp white. An abstract artwork, Oushak-style rug, multicolored and tasseled throw blanket and glamorous chandelier hanging from a vaulted ceiling bring a little boho to the bright and airy bedroom.
