Porcelain slabs are beautiful and quite durable.
But since it is a new type of product there are still a few kinks that are being worked out. One of the kinks is that the extreme hardness of the product makes it more difficult to cut and fabricate, thus the finished cost is much higher then other products. Another is because the pattern is typically only on top of the slab you are limited to a mitered edge. Most of our clients who have seen a finished product are unhappy with the sink cut-outs since the seams are much more noticeable.
There are two other types of new counters that you may want to look at. We are loving a product called GeoLuxe!!! It is a through-body product (meaning the pattern goes all the way through the slab) this allows for any and all type of edge details. Our shop loves working with it and says it is one of the easier products to cut and fabricate. It is a Pyrolithic Stone. Among many other great benefits it is very heat resistant and can be used outside!
One other product to look into is Ultra Compact surfaces. Brands like Neolith and Dekton are great options for durable and beautiful!
