I think the world, at least in North America, is decidedly moving away from oil rubbed bronze and embracing brushed nickel and chrome. But, my goodness, that doesn't mean that the two can't live happily ever after...as long as they seek counseling...from an interior designer.
I have no qualms at all about an oil rubbed bronze light fixture over an island in a kitchen with a brushed nickel faucet. But I don't think I would like a brushed nickel light fixture on an island with an oil rubbed bronze faucet. What on earth is the difference you ask! How can we mix the two metals?
I guess I consider light fixtures to be rather like accessories that can be whatever you find pleasing. While faucets and doorknobs are integral parts of the house that set its character. A new James Bond might say, "Mix carefully".
This is a knotty problem, and I'm eager to hear how other designers feel about it. Keep in mind, though, that there are always regional differences in design.
