Pick a Perfect Home Spot
Let immaculate organization, a reading retreat or a cleverly displayed collection be your home's refuge
Sometimes we just get it right: a spot in our house where everything seems to come together in perfect harmony. Maybe it's a cozy reading nook or a feat of organizational genius. A treasured collection well displayed could do it. Even a vase of flowers in front of an inspired wall color counts. Whatever it is — for me it's the newly clutter-free top of my dresser — it makes us feel content. When so much of our homes can be visual to-do lists, it's so nice to have those spots that feel absolutely done. Here are 11 inspirational ones.
1. The reading nook. Coziness is priority number one. Add books, good lighting and a rainy Sunday and you've got yourself a little slice of perfection.
2. The reading corner. You do not need a fabulous architectural detail to create a perfect reading spot. You need only a good chair, pretty pillows and engaging books.
3. The vignette. Just a few items displayed with thought and creativity. This works well if there is some common theme or color. This one has a rustic vintage thing going on.
4. The collection as art. A collection of vintage birds is displayed on branches and becomes a piece of sculpture.

5. The well-organized collection. A colorful collection of vintage dishes is stored out in the open for all to see — and use.
6. The organizational masterpiece. There are few things as satisfying as figuring out a clever way to store things. I would certainly be craftier with this instead of my junk drawer.

7. The hidden organizational masterpiece. You know there is some junk in there, but it all looks so nice tucked away in matching boxes and bins in this Expedit shelving unit.
8. The form-as-function space. A wall of bookshelves is storage and statement in one. Plus, it makes good use of a hallway.
9. The workspace. You don't have to store all the peripherals—bills to be paid, extra paper, desk-drawer effluence—at your desk. Put it somewhere else and save the workspace for working.
10. The random area made good. Maybe it's an awkward corner, a particularly big landing or a weird little crawl space. No matter how small it is, you can turn an "extra" space into something nice to look at with a rug, some pillows and a few flowers.
11. The clutter-free space. I know it's not much, but clearing off the top of my dresser, hanging my necklaces on nails and adding a little vase of flowers made my bedroom about a thousand times more pleasant to be in.
