Yes the lighting can be improved, but do not spend your money on 4000K bulbs. That is for a hospital's surgery room. Patricia always recommends 4000K bulbs, but that is too harsh and white. Look for 3000K or at most 3500K, but even 3500K I think will be too much, but you can experiment by buying a couple bulbs. Make sure your lights are on dimmer switches; it is nice to be able to adjust the brightness, and dimmers are not expensive.
I do not agree that you should add crown molding. It would make the top heavier, and is unnecessary.
