My Houzz: Elegant, Resort-Style Home in Texas
An ocean-inspired color palette helps turn a four-bedroom San Antonio house into a dreamy home with the feel of a boutique hotel
If you combined the elegant feel of Mumbai and Manhattan and put the two cities on a remote lot with an ocean view, you would get Naveen and Reema Shroff's San Antonio, Texas, home. After living in four different homes over six years, the couple was eager to settle down. "When we sold our previous home, we sold every piece of furniture and accessory, down to the picture frames and candles. We basically moved in with our baby and some clothes," says Reema. Starting with a completely blank slate, they enlisted the help of HGTV "Design Star" Trent Hultgren of Cabana Casa.
"My husband and I love weekend getaways, and I absolutely adore boutique hotels," Reema says. "I always wanted a home that looked like a hip hotel with a cool, inviting lobby and relaxing yet sexy bedrooms." Hultgren came up with an ocean-inspired color palette, focusing on blue, turquoise, coral and white to transform their suburban home into a dreamy resortlike getaway.

"My favorite spot in the house is my living room. It features a gigantic chandelier, gray velvet sofas and a cream shag rug. It's the perfect lounging spot where we spend time with our friends sipping on Champagne," says Reema. In the corner is a wine fridge, and glass floating shelves showcase glassware. The sofas are from Jonathan Adler, and Hultgren added cerulean and yellow decorative throw pillows as colorful accents. The light fixture is by Santa Maria.
"We were tired of all the Tuscan and Texas-ranch-style decor in the homes in San Antonio, and we liked this house because it was open, bright and airy. The previous homeowners were from Hawaii, and it was the perfect foundation for our style," says Reema.
Reema and Naveen saw black and white iridescent crystal rocks at a few hotels and were inspired to remove the traditional wood and create a chic and elegant outdoor seating area. The limestone fireplace surround is original to the home.

Reema's solution to clutter? Moving! "We moved homes so often, we were somewhat forced to toss or donate items. My husband is a minimalist and absolutely detests knickknacks. Also, we have a three-year-old and we really try to keep her toys contained to the game room and her bedroom," says Reema.
The kitchen features a Sub-Zero refrigerator and Thermador appliances. Reema found the clean and modern pendant lamps online.

Reema enjoys juxtaposing modern elements with interesting textures. She paired this gray marble Saarinen table found on eBay with sturdy modern chairs upholstered in burlap.
Hultgren painted wide horizontal stripes on the hallway walls, leading to the media room and bedrooms.
In the master bedroom, Hultgren kept to a white, turquoise and metallic palette. "At first, my husband was really nervous to see so much turquoise in our bedroom, but then after Trent put it all together, he loved it," says Reema.

Reema's biggest design dilemma was deciding what to splurge on. "My biggest splurge was lighting. The best advice Trent gave me was to remove the ceiling fans in the bedrooms and add gorgeous lighting instead. It instantly changed the look and feel of the bedrooms," she says.

The backyard is filled with lush greenery, adding to the home's tropical feel. While the backyard is already in great condition, Reema and Naveen would like to revamp the pool and add a lounge area. "We have a pool with cascading waterfalls, but I would like to make the entire backyard look like a tropical oas," Reema says. "Maybe add some tented, shaded areas, firepits and more areas to lounge and relax."
