With more people working from home than ever before, it’s likely that “home office” has jumped a few spots on many a remodeling wish list. One way to add a visual splash to a workspace is to wallpaper the ceiling. Check out these 10 home offices with wallpapered ceilings and read some thoughts by the designers on why this custom detail works so well.
1. Alluring Lines
Designer Valerie Grant of Valerie Grant Interiors added wallpaper featuring abstract lines to the ceiling of this home office in New York’s Hudson Valley. The graphic blue lines connect to the custom blue built-in, window trim and molding.
Grant is a fan of using wallpaper in unexpected ways. “I love to incorporate wall coverings in different applications such as on ceilings, in the back of bookshelves, on furniture pieces or inset into decorative items like trays,” she says.

2. Stylish Grasscloth
The grasscloth wallpaper on the ceiling of this San Diego home office was intended to complete the scene, Rhianna Jones of Tidal Interiors says. “It’s a visually full room with a bookcase, sweeping views and a gallery art wall,” she says. “The ceiling needed a treatment to complete the aesthetic of the space.”
With so many people working from home, Jones predicts more homeowners will look to their ceilings for inspiration. “As we all spend more time in our home office staring up at the ceiling, I think a lot more clients will be open to spending their design dollars there.”

4. Flower Power
Designer Shelby Littlefield of SV Design says the floral wallpaper on the ceiling of this Boston home office was intended to draw attention and also distract. “We wanted to add some interest while focusing your attention away from the low ceiling height,” she says.
All of the walls and built-ins are covered in a vibrant blue paint, creating the perfect opportunity for “a little jewel box moment” on the ceiling. “The wallpaper adds a whimsical, feminine touch to the space without overwhelming it,” Littlefield says.

They are all so beautiful and unique, but none show desks with computers and cords and phones... all the office equipment we use day in and out
Most ceilings are textured, so must they be sanded or prepped before wall paper is applied?
I like to look at the houses the photos in Houzz articles are taken from. I was kind of hoping the last, number 10, was a charming attic room, but as it turns out, it is part of Ye Olde Fake French Normandy Mansion. You know, just like they built them in the olde days of Marie Antoinette in the 1700s in Greenwich CT. The nicest thing I can say about that is that they placed the grand piano in the correct location for good sound. I was disappointed not to find a “Let Them Eat Cake” placard in the kitchen.
