My mind nearly caved into itself as I spent countless hours gazing into the palantir, trying to solve this dilly of a pickle. I browsed every industrial supplier catalog I could find, page after page of google image results by trash bin capacity (20-35L, 6-13 gallon...), etc. I even considered custom fabrication. The previously-suggested simplehuman bin (PD5040) was too narrow and short (9.3'' W x 9.5'' D x 18.1'' H). I wanted one both wider and taller, preferably with a taper to maximize the space above and behind the drawer rails. Several possibilities arose, but the numbers just didn't add up.
Darkness took me, I strayed out of thought and time. Stars wheeled overhead and every day was as long as a life-age of the earth. But it was not the end.
Behold!
simplehuman PD5017 (9'' W x 11.5'' D x 22.5'' H, ~30L/8 gallons) $49.98 + tax shipped for the pair.
At my wit's end, I circled back to simplehuman and dug through every trash can on their support site. Then I incrementally stepped through product numbers in the urls and checked google cached pages (text-only) to find any missing dimensions until I found the best candidates.
While it doesn't have the maximizing taper I'd hoped for aaaaaand I'd prefer it to be another inch or two deeper, it does fit perfectly in the bottom of the drawer and maximizes the cavity better than anything else I can find. It also leaves just enough room on top for smooth opening/closing with a bag rolled over the lip, even with the excessive OMLOPP drawer light I'm installing.
One model which uses the bin is their 30 Litre Butterfly Step Can. Its documentation states, "It is designed to be used with standard trash bags (13-gallon size) or simplehuman can liners (size H) for a perfect fit." I've found a 13-gallon bag just reaches the bottom.
Other simplehuman options I considered:
PD5020 (11.61'' W x 9.3'' D x 23.3'' H, blue only). I was worried that if didn't have a taper, it would sit up on the drawer's bottom, raising the overall height up to 2" and interfering with the drawer above. I went with the safer bet, which ended up having no taper.
PD6151 (9.8"W x 9.3"D x 22.5"H, blue, 24L) Taller than the PD5044 but still too small.
PD5048 (6.2'' W x 9.3'' D x 23.3'' H, black) An interesting option. If someone wished to have three shallow bins, perhaps for separating types of recyclables or the like, this might work. I measure 19-3/4” of depth to the back drawer rail, enough room for the 18.6" that'd be required. I may have overlooked a deeper, primary bin that could be used in conjunction with one of these, as many people find they have more recyclables than trash these days, but my bin searching days are over.
The 7 gallon Fluir was suggested elsewhere as an option, albeit crammed and modified. It is no longer available at IKEA as of this writing.
I hope someone benefits from my unsettlingly obsessive research and that this 3-year-old thread might finally have a worthy conclusion.
