Hello mariarami2, thanks for your question. This particular patio does not need to be shoveled to remove snow in the winter as it is in a rarely trafficked part of the landscape. If it had needed access in the winter, we would have recommended cement joints, rather than a soft base. Also cost is about $6 more per sf for cement joints vs. stone dust. I hope this helps!

We currently have these style of Kichler landscape lights installed by Landscape Illuminations many years ago. We may use the same style in a few spots around the patio and new bordering plants, or select a light without a pierced top, as these have not weathered well.
