Bathrooms under 90 square feet
3. Modern Colorado Ranch Style Bathroom at a GlanceWho uses it: Parents who have three childrenLocation: Fort Collins, ColoradoSize: 98 square feet (9 square meters)Designer: Megan Tennant of Forte Design StudiosThe owners of this Craftsman ranch house in Fort Collins, Colorado didn’t find much about their existing 98-square-foot bathroom relaxing. It was dingy, didn’t get much natural light and had a giant tub neither of them had much interest in using. And the shower stall was so cramped that they never felt relaxed in there. Designer Megan Tennant of Forte Design Studios designed a bathroom that took down divider walls, removed an oversize corner tub and created a more open layout with a spacious new shower.
The couple decided to ditch the bathtub in order to gain larger shower stall. This steam shower measures 4 feet by 7 feet — there’s plenty of room for a built-in bench, two shower heads and two operable windows. When they are done in the shower, they open the windows to let out the steam. As for style, a striking black steel and glass enclosure, black metal light fixtures and black faucets contrast with the white picket tile walls and add industrial touches. Reclaimed wood on the ceiling and a hickory wood vanity warm the room. And 10-inch matte black hexagonal porcelain tiles on the floor add a modern touch. The result is modern Colorado ranch style — more rugged and western than a typical modern farmhouse.
The homeowners sourced antique French wood doors to place between the bathroom and a walk-in closet. Details like this are a wonderful way to put a personal stamp on a design. The chose shiplap on the wall to mimic the planks they used on the ceiling. The brass hooks keep towels and robes hung close to the steam shower. Learn more about this renovation
