Wait wait, guys. Are we talking about quartzite or quart? Quartzite is a completely natural stone quarried like marble or granite. It tends to look like marble, but is actually harder than granite.
Quartz is a man made product made from ground up granite and chemicals. The name can be deceptive since the mineral quartz is one of the 3 main components of granite. Engineered quartz has very little of the mineral in it.
I strongly disagree with the statement that granite is out of style. When wood or real grass or diamonds goes out of style (replaced by pergo, astroturf and cubic zirconia) , then natural stone will go out of style. There really is no practical differences between quartz and granite, except that quartz manufactures recommend you don't put hot pots or pans on quartz. Granite will not be affected by any heat you will be using in the kitchen. Quartz is also nearly impossibe to repair if you ever dent, scratch, or chip it, whereas granite is very easy to fix (think pergo versus hardwood).
That's not to say engineered quartz doesn't have it's place. I usually recommend quartz to my clients when they want a small pattern repeated over and over without variation or when they want a non natural color like solid orange or solid pink or solid pure white etc.
To clarify with quartzite: here are some pictures of real quartzite:
