I have a raised dishwasher and our kitchen has been done for nearly four years -- LOVE it! (I mean the raised dishwasher.) And every single person who comes over, tall or not, oohs and aahs over it, saying "what a brilliant idea!" It really was. Neither my partner nor I are tall (I'm 5'4" and he's 5'9") and we've two young children, but so what? It's just sooo much easier to load and unload with it raised.
Okay, so yes, desertsteph hit the nail on the head as to the distance from the sink -- it would be awkward to have one side of the sink have this wall abutting it.
About drips ... sure, sometimes we have those (on the way from the sink to the dishwasher), but it's less common than you'd think. Of course this is probably because we don't pre-rinse -- what would be the point of having an efficient dishwasher if we had to waste water rinsing them off? We do dump the food excess in the trash first, but we're not slavish about it.
You can see our raised dishwasher here, at the end of the run. In our configuration, we have sink, then trash pull-out (with the divine foot pedal -- love that, too!), then dishwasher. Atop the trash pull-out (on the counter) we have our omnipresent drying rack ... 'tis true, we're slobs.
