Trend Watch: New Looks for Furniture and Accessories
Global design trade fairs have been canceled or postponed, but manufacturers are still delivering fresh ideas to market
There’s no doubt that the past few months have been some of the most unusual and challenging in memory for homeowners, companies and society as a whole. After months of social isolation, some countries have started easing restrictions and reopening to a new “normal,” while others are still in the middle of local emergencies. What about global design companies? How have they been affected by the pandemic?
Many new products that had been on the verge of being released are now in the pipeline and making their way to retail. Though the process may be different and slower, manufacturers are still putting out new proposals for the rest of the year. As even the biggest and most important international trade fairs have had to be canceled, companies are finding new ways to reach their audiences, primarily through their own websites. Houzz’s international editorial team contacted some of the world’s biggest manufacturers to discover the trends among their new offerings. These products tell us about ourselves, what we like, how we want to live in our homes and what we’ve missed over the last few months.

Earth Tones
When it comes to colors this year, we’re seeing the return of earth tones in a wide spectrum, from cream to terra cotta. The colors are showing up all over, as in the pastel brown of these Thonet dining chairs and the red-earth palette of Cor’s sofa, below.

Bold Blue Is Back
Earth tones aren’t the only trend with staying power of late. While black is becoming less popular, blue has been replacing it. It’s a more versatile and emotionally indulgent hue well suited to sheltering at home.
