6 Beautiful Blue-and-Wood Kitchens
Blue pairs perfectly with warm wood to create a colorful, rich combination that’s cool but never chilly
While it’s important to keep up with current events and the news, it’s equally crucial that we give ourselves a regular break from them. My favorite way to escape is to view beautiful photos, whether of nature, art or design. With this in mind, I wanted to collect photos of kitchens that I find inspirational, aspirational and simply appealing to pore over. I started with the following six sensational kitchens that mix blues with wood and other warm elements, resulting in balanced, eye-appealing designs.

2. Cool and Charming
This delightful kitchen in Seattle from Raina Henderson Interior Design also expertly blends warm wood tones with cool blue and charmingly rustic elements.
Clustering the wall cabinets, range and refrigerator on one wall frees up space above the sink for a large picture window. The good-sized island provides extra storage space that is lost from not having a string of wall cabinets above the sink.
The backsplash tile is exquisite, and for those with expensive taste but on a tight budget, note how limited the tiled area is. With a design like this you might be able to spring for a more expensive tile because of the reduced square footage you would need.

3. Light and Dark
Here’s another kitchen design that favors windows over wall cabinets. It’s also another example of how to use an expensive backsplash tile in an affordable way — not tiling all the way to the ceiling — without compromising the overall look. I really like designer Orlando Soria’s use of gradations of color, with the darkest hue on the island, a lighter blue for the backsplash, then topped off with light, bright white.
Because most of the colors are cool here, the dash of warmth from the flooring and pendants balances the cool hues nicely.

4. Soft and Sophisticated
What a unique, elegant and dramatic kitchen. From the jewel-toned colors to the interesting mix of materials, finishes and textures, it has a vibe that is modern yet timeless. It’s a project from Denver builder Saul-Co Construction, and I have no trouble at all imagining this being a warm and cozy space to hunker down in during the cold evenings of early spring.

5. Contemporary and Kid-Friendly
While the previous kitchen had a decidedly formal and sophisticated feel, this next space from Bryant Alsop Architects is 100% casual and fun.
This is no doubt a family kitchen, and I can picture the kids perched at the island doing schoolwork while their parents prepare a meal. It’s another example of balancing out cool blues with warm elements. The hardwood-clad ceiling especially keeps the Melbourne kitchen warm and welcoming.

6. Bold and Beautiful
A gorgeous cabinet color paired with beautiful tile are among the many elements that make this kitchen a looker.
The wrong choice of bold bright color here could have distracted from the stunning tile, light fixtures and that awesome dining room display cabinet. But the purple-blue hybrid — with its perfect touch of gray — is different and interesting, yet still neutral enough to complement the overall design.
