Not a pro. Just some thoughts. Picture would be helpful.
The newer blinds usually no longer have cords. While they look a lot better, I found that there is one drawback -- like a pull shade, you must be able to reach the bottom of the blinds with both hands -- and not just to lower them but to either raise or lower them. That can be a chore if you have furniture at the window.
If it is mostly the visual you don't like, you could add sheers or even drapes atop the blinds -- choosing the double rod and use a valance and you could pull your shades all the way up but still keep them for light and privacy control as needed. This is easier to do if your blinds are inside the window frame rather than overlapping the side walls.
Depending upon the window, you might be able to use plantation shutters.
Or, if the windows are large, you might consider vertical blinds with a cord that is a loop rather than loose.
