SLIM-FRAME sliding door Blomberg, cause thickness of frames matches 3 1/2' thick 4x4 posts in Eichler construction. Windows typical double-paned glass panels with wood stops. "How difficult was this section of wall to remove? - I have the same double gable layout and we are removing that section of wall between kitchen and DR. In ours, there's an electrical box coming up from the slab that doesn't seem to have any leads coming off of it, yet sends a signal that sounds like it should. Did this house have a similar electrical set up and if so were you able to find the next outlet?" Kopf Architecture I'm sure there was electrical in that wall (for a wall outlet or two). We replaced a lot of electrical on the roof as part of the project, though, so WE ABANDONED IN-SLAB ELECTRICAL in this area altogether. The in-slab electrical may (or may not depending on the house)...
One feature that we kept was openness from the kitchenFR to the atrium. The re-design also opened this area to the rear yard as well [and to LR DR more]. Now you can see fireAtrium from places in the house. Blomberg has a nice lower-profile design for patio doors, and the thickness of the door frame is 3 1/2" so it fits well in the Eichler construction.
4'-6" x 9' Seamless quartz with mitered waterfall edge is Caesarstone "Haze" through Ikea. WATERFALL edge gives SCULPTURAL appearance that signifies the "center" of family activity. Backsplash is one solid piece of blue back-painted glass, by "soda glass" [not same as the walls]. We reviewed their samples and picked a color. Ask Soda Glass for some SAMPLES; So this color came out of THEIR COLOR STICK [not painted with a color you choose]. Walls are all Benjamin Moore "Decorator's White"...
Where does the rain drain in enclosed outdoor spaces such as this? The atrium floor is carefully but imperceptibly sloped towards the front glass atrium wall, which is open under each of the glass panels. / Also, some water goes to water the plants and the Japanese maple tree as if flows by. Important is the SMALL STEP DOWN from the inside to the outside. While we kept the tile pattern aligned, for practical reasons there is a small step down to make sure no water accidentally flows inside in a rain. Most people in the space don't really notice the minor step down or the slight slope to drain.
What did you use in the living room to replace the posts that are usually just beyond the front sliding doors? "This model didn't have the posts." How did you handle drainage in the atrium now it's wall to wall tile? The whole courtyard slopes toward the street, and flows under the glass panels at the front. Some of the water does go into a few planters in the courtyard as well. What company manufactured the sliding glass door ? The door you see (and windows) are from Blomberg. Frame style in photo has been discontinued; It was their "Eichler" frame style; for better energy performance they have focused on different profiles that are heavier looking.

Original 2 x 8 V-groove tongue-and-groove decking boards that actually make up the entire roof and ceiling structure for Eichler houses. Above those boards there is insulation and then a roof membrane. No attic! WOOD BOARDS / INSULATION / ROOF MEMBRANE
Destination Eichler, LLC / Eichler ceilings were originally made from REDWOOD BOARDS; it looks like these were kept original and painted. Klopf Architecture: In some homes boards are not painted, matching them can be an issue. And even if they're painted, the original board size was larger than today's size. For instance, a 2 x 8 tongue and groove decking board back then was 1 3/4" thick and a full 8" wide, while today it's only 1 1/2" thick and 7.25" wide!
Is the bumped out ledge section of the shower wall designed in order to bring the wall flush to the drain edge? Klopf Architecture: The ledge can help with that, but it's not necessary. You can achieve flushness without the ledge by CHIPPING AWAY A LITTLE CONCRETE SLAB in that area. So the ledge was optional... it's our first job with a linear drain and large format tile in a curbless shower situation / 2 requirements for this type of drain [CA]-drain inlet a minimum of 2" below the floor level, and other is more practical: a slope of at least 1/4' per foot for good drainage. If you have a rougher floor material you may require a steeper slope.
R and S wood garage door painted, or full view aluminum garage door. www.AccessGarageDoor.com 858.638.0300 Klopf Architecture: The garage door would NOT BE ORIGINAL to an Eichler home. The original door would've probably been a swing up door that had the same wood siding as the walls had [and painted to match the walls, which kept it from standing out as a garage door]. Without going through the cost to replace this door, it was painted to match the siding with that same spirit in mind: and that is, don't make the door stand out.
The owners dreamed of an Eichler remodel they would live in forever. Their vision was clean, contemporary, and open.
Klopf Architecture: On this project we didn't replace the existing shingles. However, we normally specify Owens-Corning and they have a shingle that is comparable in appearance.
